چکیده
Fundamental understanding of interfacial magnetic properties in ferromagnetic heterostructures is essential to utilize materials for spintronic device applications. In this paper, we investigate the and electronic structures epitaxial single-crystalline LaAlO$_3$ (LAO)/La$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnO$_3$ (LSMO)/Nb:SrTiO$_3$ (Nb:STO) with varying LSMO-layer thickness, which anisotropy strongly changes depending on LSMO thickness due delicate balance between strains originating from both Nb:STO LAO layers, using x-ray circular dichroism (XMCD) photoemission spectroscopy (PES). We successfully detect clear change behavior Mn ions concomitant thickness-dependent metal-insulator transition (MIT). Our results suggest that double-exchange interaction induces ferromagnetism metallic film under tensile strain caused by SrTiO$_3$ substrate, while superexchange determines insulating compressive top layer. Based those findings, formation a dead layer near LAO/LSMO interface attributed competition via 3$d_{3z^2-r^2}$ orbitals 3$d_{x^2-y^2}$ orbitals.

Structural Phase Transition Accompanied by Metal - Insulator Transition in PrRu4P12
A structural phase transition has been found using electron diffraction technique in PrRu4P12 accompanied by a metal insulator (M I) transition (TMI = 60K). Weak superlattice spots appeared at (H, K, L) (H + K + L = 2n + 1; n is an integer) position at a temperature of T = 12 K and 40 K. Above T = 70 K, the spots completely vanished. The space group of the low temperature phase is probably Pm 3...
متن کاملMetal-insulator transition in ultrathin LaNiO3 films.
Transport in ultrathin films of LaNiO(3) evolves from a metallic to a strongly localized character as the film's thickness is reduced and the sheet resistance reaches a value close to h/e(2), the quantum of resistance in two dimensions. In the intermediate regime, quantum corrections to the Drude low-temperature conductivity are observed; they are accurately described by weak localization theor...
متن کاملTuning the metal-insulator transition in manganite films through surface exchange coupling with magnetic nanodots.
In strongly correlated electronic systems, the global transport behavior depends sensitively on spin ordering. We show that spin ordering in manganites can be controlled by depositing isolated ferromagnetic nanodots at the surface. The exchange field at the interface is tunable with nanodot density and makes it possible to overcome dimensionality and strain effects in frustrated systems to grea...
متن کاملInteraction-Driven Metal-Insulator Transition in Strained Graphene.
The question of whether electron-electron interactions can drive a metal to insulator transition in graphene under realistic experimental conditions is addressed. Using three representative methods to calculate the effective long-range Coulomb interaction between π electrons in graphene and solving for the ground state using quantum Monte Carlo methods, we argue that, without strain, graphene r...
